Official Rules (Updated)


DEALERNEWS TOP 100 (the “Competition”) begins on 12:01 a.m. U.S. Pacific time January 20, 2017, and entry period ends on 11:59 p.m. U.S. Pacific time May 31, 2017 (“Competition Period”).

ELIGIBILITY: Entries will only be accepted from franchised retail, non-franchised retail and/or service retail business establishments (“Powersports Retailers”) that are dealers and/or retailers of new/used motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, ATVs,/UTVs, personal watercraft, off-road motorcycles and/or snowmobiles (“eligible vehicles”); and, if applicable, powersports-related parts, accessories and apparel located within the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, or Canada (excluding Quebec). Entrants must be legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, or Canada (Quebec residents are not eligible), and at least 21 years of age or older, or residents of Canada over the age of majority in their province/territory of residence. Any company that owns an eligible powersports dealer/retailer business must be legally organized under the laws of the United States or Canada. Employees of DN 2.0 LLC. dba Dealernews (“Organizer”) and its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, promotion and advertising agencies, and members of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household of such employees, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter or win. Retail operations owned by members of the 2016-17 Dealernews Dealer Advisory Board are not eligible to enter or win. Void in Quebec and where prohibited by law. Competition is subject to all applicable federal, state/province and local laws.

Limit one (1) entry per eligible retail address (location). Multiple entries received from any single Powersports Retailer location after the first entry received from that location will be deemed void.


1. Access the entry form.

2. Complete all required fields.

3. Upload the appropriate supplemental documentation/images as noted in entry instructions.

4. Submit the above to Organizer by following the directions on the entry by 11:59 p.m. PT May 31, 2017.

5. DO NOT SUBMIT any printed marketing or business materials.

6. IDEA Awards: In addition, all entrants have the opportunity, at entrant’s discretion, to choose to answer one or more additional questions on the entry form and submit supporting files for entry into one or more IDEA Award Categories, described on the entry form.

All eligible entries received by Dealernews will be reviewed by a panel of qualified judges to determine the top one-hundred (100) highest scoring entries on the following criteria (possible total of 100 points):

1.        Understanding the needs of the Entrant’s customer market(s) and overall management of business, as conveyed by entry materials, to meet/exceed customer needs (0-30 pts.)

2.        Retail ambassadorship for the industry, the sport and the riding lifestyle (0-20 pts.)

3.        Customer service and engagement (0-15 pts)

4.        Community outreach (0-15 pts.)

5.        Product presentation and merchandising, business promotions and events (0-20 pts.)

Judges will determine how well each of the Entrant’s answers to the questions posed on the entry form helps to achieve the goal of the entrant’s mission statement or unique selling proposition (USP) as such mission statement/USP is provided on the entrant’s entry form, as determined by Dealernews in its sole discretion.

IDEA Awards Judging: The individual entries in the IDEA Award categories, as those described on the official entry form, will be reviewed separately from the Top 100 portion of the competition. IDEA Award entries will be judged equally on the excellence, clarity, descriptiveness and thoroughness of the answer to the applicable category question on the official entry form.

In the event of a tie, an additional “tie-breaking” judge will determine the winner(s) from among such tied entries based on the criteria listed herein. Organizer reserves the right to not award all prizes if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified entries. Judges’ decisions are final and binding on all matters relating to this Competition.

One (1) Grand Prize – The Grand Prize-winning dealership shall be designated the TOP 100 DEALER OF THE YEAR and shall receive (i) a trophy, approximate retail value (ARV) $800.00 US; (ii) an awards presentation ceremony and reception, hosted in the winner’s community and organized by Dealernews, approximate ARV $1000.00 US; and (iii) a national public relations campaign, developed and executed by Dealernews, promoting the winner’s achievements, approximate ARV $1200.00 US.

One-hundred (100) First Prizes – One-hundred (100) Powersports Retailers will be chosen as First Prize winners. Each shall be designated a Top 100 Dealer for 2016 and shall receive benefits from (i) a Top 100 national public relations campaign, developed and executed by Dealernews, promoting the winners, approximate ARV $2500.00 US; and (ii) individual award certificates verifying them as Top 100 Dealers for 2016.

IDEA Award First Prizes - Eight (8) Powersports Retailers will be chosen as First Prize winners in the listed IDEA Category awards and each shall receive (i) an award plaque, approximate retail value (ARV) $50.00 US; and (ii) a business public relations announcement, developed and executed by Dealernews, promoting the winners’ achievements, approximate ARV $800.00.

Total ARV of all prizes: $6,700.00 US

All prize details will be at the sole discretion of Dealernews. Prizes are awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either express or implied by Dealernews. No substitution, transfer, or cash equivalent of prize is permitted, except by Dealernews, which reserves the right to substitute a prize (or portion thereof) as comparable or greater value, at its sole discretion. Any and all federal, state, provincial and local taxes on a prize as well as any other costs, fees and expenses associated with acceptance and use of a prize not explicitly stated herein as being awarded are the sole responsibility of the winners. Winner is responsible for the reporting and payment of any income taxes.


Entrant is responsible for ensuring entry is received by Dealernews undamaged. All entries become the sole property of Dealernews and will not be returned. Each entry must be entrant’s own original work, be in English, be true and verifiable, be in keeping with the Organizer’s image and may not be offensive or inappropriate, as determined by the Dealernews in its sole discretion. Nor can the entry defame or invade publicity rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or organization, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s personal or property rights or any other third party rights. Dealernews reserves the right to void any entry it deems in its sole discretion to be offensive or inappropriate, not in keeping with Dealernews’s image or that is otherwise not in compliance with these Official Rules.

By entering the Competition and submitting all Entry Materials (without limitation all text, video, images and other graphic files, audio and other materials), entrant grants to Dealernews a perpetual, royalty-free license to publish, post, copy, distribute, edit, modify, display, create derivatives and/or compilations, and perform publicly and otherwise use the Entry Materials, including, without limitation, names, likenesses, trademarks and logos of any persons or locations embodied therein, for any educational purpose worldwide and/or to promote/advertise Dealernews and/or the Competition, on any media now known or not currently known, without compensation, permission or notification to Entrant. Entrant also agrees to release and hold harmless Dealernews and its agencies, and the competition judges, and assigns against any and all claims based on publicity rights, defamation, invasion of privacy, copyright infringement, trademark infringement or any other intellectual property-related cause of action.

By participating in the Competition, each entrant warrants and represents that the Entry materials:

·         Are original to him/her and that the entrant has all necessary rights in and to the Video/Image(s)/Essay and all of its components (if applicable) to enter the Entry materials in the Competition. For example, entrant must have permission to use any and all images and/or music contained in video;

·         Do not and will not violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation;

·         Do not contain any reference to or likeness of any third parties unless consent has been obtained from all such individuals (NOTE: If a video or image contains any third parties who are under 21 years of age or age of majority in their province or territory of residence, then consent must also be obtained from any such person’s parent or legal guardian);

·         Will not give rise to any claims of infringement, invasion of privacy of publicity, or infringe on any rights and/or interests of any third party, or give rise to any claims for payment whatsoever; and

·         Are not defamatory, trade libelous, pornographic, or obscene.

By participating, each entrant agrees: (a) to abide by these rules and decisions of Dealernews and judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects relating to this Competition; and (b) to release, discharge and hold harmless Dealernews and its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries and advertising and promotion agencies, and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents and representatives of the foregoing (collectively, “Released Parties”) from any and all injuries, liability, losses and damages of any kind to persons, including death, or property resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from entrant’s participation in the Competition or any Competition-related activity or the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any awarded prize or the use of any rights granted herein.

The Released Parties assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Released Parties are not responsible for any problems or failure of any entry to be received on account of technical problems, including any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in connection with the Competition.

Dealernews may disqualify anyone (and void his/her entry) from participating in the Competition or winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that such person is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Competition by cheating, deception or other unfair playing practices, or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrant or Organizer’s representatives, or is in violation of these Official Rules. ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE COMPETITION MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, ORGANIZER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND OTHER REMEDIES (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION. Dealernews reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or suspend the Competition should tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or any other causes corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the Competition and, if terminated, at its discretion, judge all non-suspect, eligible entries received up to time of such impairment using the judging procedure outlined above.

Request for winner’s names: The list of the Top 100 First Prize winning businesses, the IDEA Award winners and the Dealer of the Year shall be available after June 20, 2017, on www.dealernews.com.
